Project Proposal on Effect of Organizational Cultural (Study PIA, AIR BLUE)

Introduction

The present research study intends to investigate the relationship between Cultural differences of Government and private organizations. There is a decline in service of government organizations since last couple of years and its need of the hour to investigate the facts and figures which resulted into decline.

We will take example of two organizations here, one from government and second from private. PIA will be representing government and Air blue will represent private organization. Pakistan International Airlines has been an air travel pioneer since its inception in 1955. Their vision and mission compromise of being world class airline by exceeding customer expectations through their valued employees while working on a mission to become a global airline by offering customer services and innovative products.

This would be only managed by cost effective measures in procurement and by using state of art technologies. Their values include 5 major elements which are customer expectations, service, cohesiveness, reliability and safety. All of these sets of pure commitment prove that PIA is an airline emerging as a serious competitor among its league.

Air blue on the other hand is a newly emerged young airline Started in 2004. Air blue offers world-class travel to many cities within Pakistan. Started with a significantly low budget as compared to the normal requirement of airline birth Air blue has displayed their professionalism to become a successful airline. Air blue now offers flights to Dubai (UAE) from four different Pakistani cities, and has started its service to Manchester (UK) in 2007. Air blue has integrated unique innovations to ensure security and affordability. Among these are complete online reservation systems and mobile airport check in procedures.

Air blue aims to focus passengers comfort at prices that offer value for money and have efficient staff taking care of the customers with respect. This research study is considered to be worthwhile as it examines the cultural environment of Pakistan International Airlines and compares them with the cultural environment of Air blue.  Essential feature of the current study is to investigate the culture of both of these airlines which ultimately effect the expectations of their customers.

This study is focused on those dimensions of cultural difference and their impact on service quality which will facilitate the selected airlines to better assess the expectations of their customers.

Background of the Project

Organizational culture is an abstraction which is filled with forces which are created in practical organizational situations. Yet these all forces are very powerful since they operate outside any ones imagination. And these forces need to be reviewed since they help to explain many of the frustrating and astonishing experiences.

Overall if these forces are reviewed they might help to understand the culture in a more diversified way. A change in any one of these forces can cause a dramatic cultural change in organization. We can present an example over here that if a manager is new in an organization and trying to bring change he or she might experience resistance to that change.

This is because they might be going against the present organizational culture. Similarly it is very important to understand the organizational culture since it is directly related to the service which is being provided by the organization. It is required that organizations should prioritize this culture so that they can provide an environment in which the employees can work in a peacefully without any problems otherwise a bad culture could be threatening for the success of an organization.

There is another example where an organization only believed a particular thing when had an extensive debate. This debate when carried out popped some barriers but with clarification it turned out to be a successful debate. Ideas like these can help to mold the culture in a professional environment where employees can even adapt new changes quickly rather than acting as a barrier to the change.Airlines play a very important role in the overall economic development of the country.

Majority of airlines around the world are struggling to attract the customers and improve their service standards for customers’ retention. These airlines satisfy the customers by understanding their requirements and expectations (Smith, 1994). Similar to the airline industry of other countries, Pakistan airline industry has both government and private airlines. Present study has selected Pakistan International Airlines and Air blue from the airline industry of Pakistan to investigate cultural differences of government and private sector.

So this study will help these two airlines to be aware of the cultural environment within these organizations and prioritize / improve their work cultures. The brief overview of Pakistan International Airlines and Air blue is as follows:

Organizational culture could be measured quantitatively and qualitatively. The quantitatively measurement would include key cultural dimensions and the qualitatively would include stories, incidents, and symbols that represent the immeasurable ambience of the organization.

The second area to be discussed is service quality. Service quality is the result of a complex network of several dimensions. The dimensions which can be also classified as parameters are reliability, tangibles, responsiveness, assurance, flexibility, safety, appearance, usability, and empathy.

Reliability is the ability to perform service accurately. In this particular project it could be reliability of either PIA or Air Blue to fly their flights on time as described on the schedule without any delays. Tangible consist of appearance of physical facilities which would be cabin appearance.

Responsiveness represents willingness to help customers, like arranging hotel facilities incase of flight delays due to weather.  Assurance reflects the knowledge and courtesy of employees and empathy demonstrates the individualized caring of customers which could be taking care of a sick customer on flight and so on.

Objectives of the study

To find out the cultural differences which exists in private and public sector organizations in Airline industry?
To find out the effect of cultural aspects on the service quality of the respective organizations?
To identify how culture can contribute to increase the effectiveness of an organization.
To determine which culture component is more important in the effectiveness of an organization.

Significance of the study

As I am aware that cultural environment of an organization is related directly to service quality, Hence this study will evaluate the impact of cultural environment on service quality. I can evaluate / find the loop holes in the cultural environment of relevant organization and improve the service quality which will result into financial benefit to the organization. Ultimately the financial benefit of the organization will be shared by the employees as well.

The study will help examine the culture; this will be done with the help of parameters of both organizational culture and service quality. After the final analysis it would be clear which of these two organizations have a better organizational culture and out of these which of these customers are more satisfied with the service they are availing.

This will substantially help the organization which needs improvement and this improvement could be in any of those main elements of this project which is service quality and organizational culture of the organization.

Good luck and if you have any query regarding the suggested changes or improvement feel free to ask

Use of Open ended question in Final Project

We are receiving lot of questions from students about use of open ended questions in Final Project. We are going to publish one question from them and with solution

Question

Respected sir, please tell me about the coding of open ended questions. How can I assign code to them with the help of an exampled? I also want to ask about the rules of code construction. First the coding categories should be exhaustive and second coding categories should also be mutually exclusive and independent. Please explain these rules in easy words with the help of example thanks and best regards. Sana-MBA-VU

Answer

To analyze the open ended questions find out the main theme of the answers of the open ended questions, divide the responses on the basis of themes and then do your coding and analysis on the basis of that theme.

The First rule says that the coding categories should be exhaustive. It means that you should make categories for all the response types. If you miss out making coding category for any subject or response you will not be able to code all the responses properly and hence the coding and analysis will not be correct.

Second rule says that the categories you made for responses should be exclusive and independent. It means that the coding categories should clearly segregate and distinguish the groups of data collection so that there is no chance of any confusion in coding the data. If two coding categories are similar then there are chances that you will record few responses under one category and few under other category, as a result the coding will be falsified and your analysis will be incorrect.

FIN619 Reports marked Comments

Please remove the mistakes as highlighted in this Report while preparing for the next session that is submission of internship report and Presentation and Viva Voce

You should have a clear understanding of all the workings and activities that you have performed in the departments mentioned in your Internship Report. You should be able to interpret the ratios by discussing the reason(s) why the fluctuation/change in trend is observed in ratios in 2008-2010.

You should mention the unit of measurement with each ratio i.e. Rs, times, percentage, etcetera. In the Ratio Analysis portion it is necessary that you should have the result understanding.

Result understanding: i.e. what does the answer derived from ratio calculation indicates? You have to critically analyze the result of calculated ratio by explaining the relationship of numerator with that of a denominator*. Also, you should identify the item(s) from the numerator and/or denominator that is causing the significant change in the particular ratio of the selected companies.

In interpretation of ratios, you are required to interpret the result of ratio in particular year, e.g. If result of current ratio is 1.1:1 in 2010 then it means that if the company has the Current Liabilities worth Rs 1 then the company has Rs 1.1 to pay off its current liabilities.

Current Ratio = Current Assets / Current Liabilities

Result figure always represent numerator e.g. if result is 1.75 then it will present the current assets where the current liabilities are assumed as 1, (as current ratio unit is in ratio ( : ) or times).

You should divide the conclusion portion into two parts. In the first part you should conclude based upon the Internship program and in the second part you should provide the conclusion based on the Ratio Analysis such as regarding her profitability, leverage positions, etcetera.

In this portion you were required to mention the ratios of the organization which were weak or needs attention. You were required to highlight the area of the organization which requires attention.

In recommendations portion, you should provide the possible suggestions/recommendations to improve the points/problems highlighted in the

Conclusion portion.

In this portion you do NOT tell that what the organization should do rather you are required to provide suggestions or recommendations that how they can remove or reduce the problem(s) identified in the conclusions portion.

How to Write a Good Summary for HRM619 Final Project

Dear students, for best understanding i am going to write a Summary for HRM619 Final Project. Study has been conducted over both companies between Askari Bank and Bank Alfalah.
Project Summary
The study has been conducted on both banks in Pakistan named Askari Bank and Bank Alfalah. The main reason for conducting this research was to analyze HR Practices of Bank Alfalah and to analyze the HR practices of Askari Bank then compare the HR practice of both banks with each others.
On the base on our finding we have found that HR practice in Bank Alfalah is much effective then Askari Bank
For the sake of achieving the major both objectives I have done two types of Analysis
1. Percentage analysis (frequency table and graph) for the sake of measure the respondents response regarding to each questions

2. Cumulative percentage analysis have been done to analyze and measures the HR practice in both banks and for Comparison purpose

For the sake of analyze HR practice of both banks I have done Percentage analysis then I have presented my data in frequency table with graph for better understanding. The reason for doing percentage analysis to show you how many respondents have selected particular Questionnaires options and what is percentage.  So for the sake of measures the HR practice in both banks, the study has conducted Percentage analysis to show respondents response of each question and then percentage of the each option. By doing these analysis the study has got the result of each question that how many respondents are satisfied with the particular banks and which banks have more effective HR system.  So with the help of this analysis I have measured the respondent’s response regarding to our each question. These analyses are showing very clear pictures of employee perception regarding to their particular banks.

DISTRIBUTION TABLES

Here I put frequency distribution on the data to know about the HR practices in both banks. Graphs are also used to have clear idea about the data.   You can see the result in Data analysis portion. The main reason behind this was to show you the respondent’s response and then percentage of each option.

Cumulative Percentage Analysis

Analyzed the HR Practice in Bank Alfalah

FIN619 Guidelines for Interpretation of Ratios

Guidelines for Interpretation of Ratios

The following guidelines will help to understand what interpretation means and how it should be done.

What does interpretation of ratios mean?

Interpretation means explanation of the ratios results. It does not mean definition of ratios rather it should enable the readers to understand what the calculated ratio indicates and what the trend for that particular ratio is. It should cover four steps:

Step # 1) Result understanding:

What does the answer derived from ratio calculation indicates? You have to critically analyze the result of calculated ratio by explaining the relationship of numerator with that of a denominator.

Step #2) Trend Analysis:

What are the variations in a company’s ratio results i.e. the trend for the same company and the reasons for that change in trend? All three selected companies should be analyzed in this way.

Step #3) Comparison:

i.e. among the three selected companies which company is leading/ taking edge and why?

Step #4) Bench mark (if applicable):

i.e. the comparison of ratio with the benchmark/rule of thumb/standard of that ratio in that particular industry (as these standards vary according to the type of industry selected for analysis e.g. Manufacturing, Banking, FMCG companies, etc). Also give reasoning of deviation from that standard.

You will have to interpret the calculated ratios in the way described above step wise.

How to Write Project Summary in MKT619 Project

I have done a research on Comparison of Product strategy between Bata and Servis Shoes. Now i am going to write Final Project Summary

Summary

The study has been conducted over the Product strategy of Bata Shoes and Servis Shoes companies. The main theme behind of this study was to find out and measure the perception of the people regarding to Bata company products strategy and Servis Company. And you have seen this study is also showed you a comparison between two companies’ products and product image in consumers mind. Data were collected from the both companies consumers through gave them questionnaires to fill up, a non-probability sampling technique were used. Data were processed and analysis on the excel sheet. During data collection we have also ensured data quality, irrelevant response were eliminated before further proceed. According to study finding, we have found 34 % consumers were using Bata products less then 1 year, and 30 % consumers were using 1 to 2 years as they are presently enjoying with the Bata products. On the other hand we have also seen that 30 % consumers of Servis Company were using its products less then one year and 30 % consumers 1 to 2 years. This result showed that presently consumers are purchasing Servis company products as the ratio indicates. Meanwhile 30 % consumers from Bata products were using product 1 to 2 years. This ratio indicate Bata have 30 % consumers loyalty since they were using its products 1 to 2 years. We have also seen in our fining in our third question, 67% consumers have selected yes options, as they are agree that Bata Products lines covers all its target consumers. These findings have proved, Bata is always care the customers desired and offer product, which customers desired. The perceptions of the consumers towards Bata Company were true, as they offer verities of products in different season with different people, child, young man, and woman. On the other hand we have also seen the Servis Company finding on the same question 40 % consumers are selected Yes option. As they felt that Servis company product lines cover all target consumers. These finding were also true, Servis Company is also offer verities of products in the same different season. But the ratio concern to this question Bata is the first company according to my study respondents. The most vital question of my study was concern to company brand preference. We have seen that 50 % consumers of Bata Company is using products due to Product quality, 16 % consumers were using Bata product due to Price. On the other hand if we look Servis Company finding on same question we could see that 30 % consumers were using Servis company products, due to Product quality, 50 % consumers using Servis company product due to price. As now open crystal most of the consumers purchasing Servis company product due to price not due to product quality. In our other question response regarding to product information through advertisement 50 % consumers from Bata company respondents were strongly agree that Bata is providing product information through advertisement but on the other hand 30 % consumers from Servis company were strongly agree that Servis company is providing related to product through advertisement. So after comparison it is dig out that Bata company ratio is high about product information according to consumer’s perceptions. 50 % consumers from Bata company have shared their views that Bata company shoes are much comfortable then others company. On the others and we have also seen that 30 % consumers from Servis company have share their views that Servis company shoes are much comfortable then others. Use of Data collection tools in MKT619 Project

Use of Data collection tools in MKT619 Project

A lot of data required for the successful completion of this project will be primary data. In order to collect this data, I will be using the questionnaire. The questionnaire will be used to collect data from the consumer of the two companies. The questionnaire will be designed while keeping in mind the variables of interest in this study. The customers are the end group who are targeted with the pricing strategies of the companies they are direct beneficiaries or sufferers as may be the case of the product strategy.

Where Could We Get Data

For example we are going to study under the Lahore Boundary then you may Write in your proposal

Target Area of Market

The subject under study in this project is the consumers of the Bata and Servis. These companies have a presence nationwide and have thousands of customers in all areas of Pakistan. So the population of this study would comprise of the customers of Bata and Servis all over Pakistan. It is not possible to study this entire population for this project as it would mean conducting nationwide surveys. For this purpose I have decide to sample the population into a smaller, manageable group. The area where the survey would be carried out has been limited to the physical boundaries of Lahore. In this area, several localities will be visited to collect data. Specific areas of data collection would be Defence, Gulberg, Chuburji and Data Darbar. The areas have been selected to give a  wide variety of respondents so that the data collected is balanced.

Final Project on Comparison of product strategies

Significance of the project

There is no question about how important planning is to every project especially if it involves marketing strategies. Haven’t you noticed that company owners usually prioritize marketing over the other sectors of the company because for every successful project. Thus with great planning, project management and owners have control over what is happening that is how important marketing project planning is.

The success of every project depends on its strategy and the way it has been implemented. Every marketing project planning should include and support the how it is going to be done. In this way the project managers already determine the outcome of each project especially in terms of product and how affects the business as a whole. Having a good plan makes it easier for everybody who is involved which brings better business results.
Usually the benefits of having a great marketing project plan are increased revenues due to the project early launching of the project, there is a decrease in cost and expenses because of time and money less spent. All of these translate to more profit for the company. By lacking marketing project planning you will find yourself working more on finding solutions to the problems.

MKT619 Final Project and Data Collection

Which technique is good to collect data? Quantitative or Qualitative.

Dear Students

It depends on the nature of your research. Sometime you can not obtain data in figures (where no documentation is available) so in such case you have to collect qualitative data. e.g. if you conduct research to know people’s attitude towards the taste of any packed milk, you will go in the market, ask questions from different people who are the user of packed milk, in this case you are collecting qualitative data. But if you are conducting research to know how many people pay their taxes in a year, you will just go in the tax department and you will collect data in figures from the previous records which are available in the tax department and this will be quantitative type of data. So according to the nature of your research, you have to choose that whether you can obtain data from qualitative research or quantitative

Sir What Method is best to collects information for a research, applied or basic research

Dear Students

Research is done to gather information about any problem in the universe through a systematic way.
In research work, information about specific problem can be obtained by using two ways

Basis research: This type of research just enhances researcher’s own knowledge i.e. researcher conducts this type of research for himself/ herself. So in this way it helps in generating new ideas (different scientific theories are examples of basic research).

Applied research: This type of research is specifically conducted to solve a problem. The information which is gathered through this research further processed to generate some results. Thus results obtained are used to solve the specific problem. Different companies conduct this type of research to solve their problems.

So if the researcher’s purpose is not to apply the findings of research practically and he/ she is conducting research just for his/ her own knowledge then this will be basic research. But if the research is specifically conducted to find out the solution of a problem and the findings of research will be used practically then this type of research will be applied.
